Privacy Policy
Last updated: January 13, 2025
At Bugger, we respect your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our bug identification application.
Our Privacy Commitment
Bugger is designed with privacy in mind. Your bug collection, scan history, and personal data are stored locally on your device. We only process images temporarily for identification purposes.
Information We Collect
When you use Bugger, we process the following:
- Bug Images: Photos you submit are sent to our secure servers for AI identification. Images are processed in real-time and are not permanently stored on our servers.
- Subscription Status: If you subscribe to Bugger Pro, we receive confirmation of your subscription status from Apple but not your payment details.
Information We Don't Collect
We do not collect, store, or have access to:
- Your personal information (name, email) unless you contact us
- Location data
- Contacts or address book information
- Your bug collection or scan history (stored locally on your device)
- Photos from your camera roll (only images you explicitly submit)
Local Data Storage
Your Bugdex collection, badges, XP progress, and scan history are stored locally on your device using iOS's secure storage. This data remains on your device and under your control.
If you delete the app, all locally stored data will be permanently removed from your device.
Image Processing
When you scan a bug:
- The image is securely transmitted to our identification service
- AI processes the image to identify the bug species
- The identification result is returned to your device
- The image is not stored on our servers after processing
Subscription Information
If you subscribe to Bugger Pro, payment processing is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We receive confirmation of your subscription status but do not have access to your payment details, credit card information, or Apple ID.
Third-Party Services
Bugger integrates with the following services:
- OpenAI: Used for AI-powered bug identification. Images are processed according to OpenAI's privacy policy. You can review it at openai.com/privacy.
- RevenueCat: Used for managing subscription status. RevenueCat receives anonymized subscription data from Apple. Review their policy at revenuecat.com/privacy.
Data Security
Your local data is protected by iOS's built-in security features, including device encryption when you have a passcode enabled. Image transmissions for identification use HTTPS encryption.
Children's Privacy
Bugger is designed to be family-friendly and educational. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
Your Rights
Since most of your data is stored locally on your device, you have complete control over it. You can:
- Delete individual bugs from your collection
- Clear your entire Bugdex and start fresh
- Delete all data by uninstalling the app
